ANFFECC strengthens dialogue with the Valencian Ministry of Industry to promote competitiveness, innovation and decarbonisation

The National Association of Manufacturers of Ceramic Frits, Enamels and Colours (ANFFECC) president, Fernando Fabra, and its secretary general, Manuel Breva, met today in Castellón with the Regional Minister for Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism, Marián Cano, to discuss the current situation of the sector and outline new lines of cooperation with the regional government.

Castellón, 15 May 2025. – During the meeting, ANFFECC expressed its concern about the loss of competitiveness suffered by companies as a result of the energy crisis of recent years, the impact of rising regulatory costs and the decline in sales and production. Despite these challenges, the sector has shown signs of recovery in the first quarter of 2025, thanks to its adaptability, the reactivation of foreign markets such as Algeria, and a gradual improvement in employment, which grew by 3.6% in 2024.

One of the key topics of discussion was the sector-wide project H2frit, focused on energy transition and industrial decarbonisation, which is yielding very promising results. This initiative — recognised with the RENMAD Hydrogen Innovation Award — is funded by the Valencian Ministry of Industry and aims to demonstrate the technical feasibility of using hydrogen (H₂) as an alternative to natural gas in ceramic frit production. ANFFECC emphasised the need for the regional government to ensure a clear and stable regulatory framework for the energy transition.

Regarding administrative procedures, ANFFECC welcomed the measures already promoted by the regional government under the Plan Simplifica, which represent a significant step forward in reducing bureaucratic barriers. However, the sector remains awaiting the full implementation of the regulation so that these improvements can effectively materialise in companies’ day-to-day management. The discussion also addressed the need to improve access to public financing instruments that support investment in innovation, digitalisation and sustainability — essential tools to prevent industrial relocation and consolidate recovery.

Fernando Fabra described the meeting as “highly positive,” highlighting “the open and constructive attitude of Minister Cano and her willingness to continue working closely with the frits and enamels sector to tackle current major challenges.” He added: “It is essential to advance towards greater regulatory simplification, stability and commitment to industry, in order to restore competitiveness, maintain employment and strengthen our international position.”
